The newly designed, STEM-designated Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Economics in Temple University’s College of Liberal Arts prepares students for university teaching and research positions, and careers as economists in business and government. This 42-credit doctoral program emphasizes skill development in advanced empirical methods.

Program Format & Curriculum

Students have five years to complete their doctor of philosophy and are expected to fulfill requirements on a full-time basis. Courses for the Applied Economics PhD program are offered at Temple’s Main Campus. In addition to qualifying examinations, students must complete an original research paper during their third year.

In keeping with Temple’s commitment to access and affordability, this Doctor of Philosophy offers a competitive level of tuition with multiple opportunities for financial support.

Tuition rates are set annually by the university and are affected by multiple factors, including program degree level (undergraduate or graduate), course load (full- or part-time), in-state or out-of-state residency, and more. These tuition costs apply to the 2024–2025 academic year.

Pennsylvania resident: $1,105.00 per credit
Out-of-state: $1,518.00 per credit
